“I want to argue for a stronger claim: that the human living body is important for understanding not just the experience, but the work itself. Sculptures are a special kind of body, and we, as bodies, come to know them through our bodies.

Ingvild Torsen

embodiment 25/26

Embodiment is an MFA series of figurative, partially abstracted clay polyptychs in the making that examines bodily “world-relations” through posture and contact.

accademia del giglio 2025

These sculptures were developed during my studies at the Accademia del Giglio, Florence (2025). The work set out to revisit a classical approach to figurative sculpture.

classical disruptions 24/25

is a sculpture series that cites the prestige language of classical form—idealisation, whiteness, monumentality—and interrupts it through colour, stylisation, and historical slippage.

folded continuum | 2024

These geometrically grounded works retain a strong organic character, where precision is softened by hand pressure, clay memory, and textured surfaces. A continuous turn is extended into volume: loops fold back into themselves and open a central void.

yin & yang| chess set | 2024

This ceramic chess set uses the logic of the game as a model for social relations, power,  belonging and transcendence. The pawns—each unique pieces and individually inscribed—speak in the plural voice of community: we hope, we love, we laugh, holding Ubuntu as a field of shared desire, vulnerability, and support.
